PRAIRIE DU CHEIN, Wis. – Police rescued a 72-year-old woman who was attempting to save her dog when she fell through ice on the Mississippi River. A passerby at the Prairie du Chien Marina heard the woman’s cries for help and called 911. Officers didn’t see the woman at first but then spotted her head and the dog bobbing in and out of the water. Two officers broke through the ice trying to reach the woman. They then used special tools to bring her to shore — and the dog too. The woman was treated for hypothermia. The rescue was January 15, but the police waited to release officer bodycam video.
