ST. PAUL, Minn. — Eight people have been charged with Medicaid fraud involving the theft of $860,000, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced. Ellison said that Trenea Davis of the northwest Minneapolis suburb Brooklyn Center admitted to being the ringleader of the scheme. She faces 11 charges. A total of 46 counts of felony theft were filed against the defendants. Ellison said that Davis recruited family and friends to fake or exaggerate medical conditions to qualify personal care assistants. The scheme, he said, also involved recruiting people to report providing services that never occurred. Those charged include Davis’ husband, her brother-in-law, a niece, and the niece’s former boyfriend. Ellison said two defendants were collecting Minnesota Medicaid benefits while living in Louisiana.
