CHASKA, Minn. — Former state Senator Scott Jensen, R-Chaska, declared his candidacy for governor. This puts Jensen into what may be a crowded field in the 2022 Republican primary, although only one other gubernatorial hopeful, Mike Murphy of Lexington has announced so far. Jensen served one term in the Senate and retired in January. He is a family physician known mostly as a critic of the state’s response the wisdom of federal guidelines in reporting Co-Vid deaths. In 2020 Jensen claimed on Facebook that he was under investigation by the state Board of Medical Practice for a television interview in which he said he was told to falsify death certificates to list Co-Vid as the cause of death. He has been criticized for comparing Co-Vid to influenza.
Candidate profile
Jensen graduated valedictorian from Sleepy Eye High School in 1973. He attended Lutheran Norhwestern Theological Seminary. He holds a physiology degree and a medical doctorate from the University of Minnesota. Most of his medical career has been in southwest Mineapolis suburbs. He was a member of the Waconia School Board from 1993 to 2002, including a term as chair. He was a member of the Citizens Alliance Bank board and chaired the audit committee chair. Jensen founded Catalyst Medical Clinic in Watertown, where he is family physician. He is also a clinical associate professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Jensen was elected to the Minnesta Senate in 2016 but didn’t seek a second term. He is 66.
