WINONA, Minn. – A police chase ended about 2 a.m. when the pursued driver crashed into Plumbers Mechanical Group building at 239 Junction Street on the Far West End. The driver was unconscious in the wreck. He was airlifted to Gundersen hospital in LaCrosse. The chase had begun near Broadway and Wilson streets when an officer clocked a vehicle at 44 mph in a 30 zone. When the officer pulled the vehicle over, the driver took off west on Broadway. The chase reached 70 mph before the officer backed off in the interest of public safety, police said. Cruising the area, the officer spotted a bystander pointing to the crash up Junction Street.
