MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – A Swiss mining company, PolyMet, has suffered a setback in plans to dig a copper mine near Babbit on a river that drains into Lake Superior. The Minnesota Court of Appeals sent PolyMet’s request for an air pollution permit back to the state Pollution Control Agency for reconsideration. The Court found that the agency had failed to evaluate whether PolyMet’s request accurately reflected the size and scope of the proposed mine. Environmentalists have opposed the mine.
