MADISON, Wis. — The stated Republican Party of Wisconsin distanced itself, kinda but not wholly, from the petition drive to out entertainer Kanye West on the November presidential ballot. The issue has been the role of a Republican operative, lawyer Lane Ruhland, in the petition drive. Alesha Gunther, spokesperson for the state Republican Party, issued a statement: “It appears that the Kanye West campaign made a smart decision by hiring an experienced election attorney. ” Gunther said Republicans welcome Kanye West to the race, as well as and all other candidates. She added: “We look forward to delivering Wisconsin’s 10 electoral votes to President Trump.” Meanwhile, there are Republican efforts to put West n ballots in other states, including California, Florida, Nevada and Illinois.
