ROCHESTER, Minn. — A 17-year-old Eyota boy, Kaleb Smith, was charged with suffocating his 5-year-old brother to death to stop his crying. The charge: Second-degree murder and domestic assault. The criminal complaint, based on a coroner’s report, said the teenager pinched the boy’s nose shut and held his hand over his mouth. The boy’s brain swelled consistent with being deprived oxygen by smothering, the coroner said. The death was June 1.
