MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin schools Superintendent Carolyn Stanford Taylor came down hard against a proposed state law to dictate how history is taught in Wisconsin schools. Local school boards, not the state, should control their curriculums, Taylor said. The issue is a Republican bill to force teachers to avoid discussing a role of white supremacy in U.S. history. Taylor, who is black, has almost four decades of public education experience, including 17 years as assistant state learning support superintendent.
