WASHINGTON – Congressman Rion Kind, from Wisconsin, naturally, proposed a federal law to bar \advertising hype that uses the term “natural cheese” loosely. Kind’s goal, he said, is to guide consumers to the real thing and protect Wisconsin cheese-makers. What’s natural cheese? It has to come from fresh milk and dairy ingredients. Velveeta? Dunno. Obvious examples: Cheddar, Swiss, feta, cream cheese, Havarti, Parmesan, Gruyere, string cheese. Kind, D-LaCrosse, said his bill has bipartisan support. His title for the bill: The Codifying Useful Regulatory Definitions Act. Or CURD for short.

Never too much. So long as it’s the real thing.
