BLUFF SIDING, Wis. – A body recovered from the Mississippi River across from Winona was identified as that of of David G. Lacher, 63, of Winona. The Buffalo County chief deputy, Lee Engfer, said that it remained unclear what happened but said foul play wasn’t suspected. It was not thought that Lacher was swimming, he said. The body was spotted mid-morning Thursday about just downriver from the abandoned Old Wagon stone bridge, just of the main channel. The area dangerous because of a deep drop-off into the main channel.
