WINONA, Minn. – From the emergency room at the Winona hospital, blues-rocker John Popper made a judgment call: The show would go on. Popper and fellow members of the Blues Traveler band were shaken up, some hurt, when their tour bus crashed on Interstate 90. They were 40 miles short of Rochester, where a Friday evening performance was scheduled at Mayo Park with co-headliner JJ Grey & Mofro. The New Jersey-based Blues Traveler troupe was beginning a tour to promote its new album “Traveler’s Blue,” which released July 30. Within two weeks the album was Number 1 on the Billboard‘s blues album chart.

Blues Traveler profile
The band was formed in 1987 in Princeton, New Jersey. Its genre was eclectic: Blues rock, psychedelic rock, folk rock, soul and Southern rock. The band gained prominence on the re-emerging jam band scene of the 1990s. The band is known for extensive use of segues in live performances. Its latest album, released in July, picks up classics from Round Hill Records’ “American Blues Songbook.”
