WINONA, Minn. —The soul rock band Blues Traveler hadn’t planned a Winona stop on its tour. But it happened. The band’s tour bus wrecked at the Wilson interchange of Interstate 90 and Highway 43. Everyone onboard, all nine of them, were trapped inside until first-responders arrived and pried the door open from outside. Three of the musicians ended up in the Winona hospital emergency room. The others had to hang around town a while. It wasn’t all bad. Said headliner John Popper: Thank you, Winona: “Our sincere gratitude to the Winona Police Department and rescue crew for their help getting us safely off the highway and out of oncoming traffic.” Those who responded, besides city police, were Winona County sheriff’s deputies, Wilson volunteer firefighters, and a Winona ambulance crew.

Popper. They took good care of us.
