BEMIDJI, Minn. – President Trump, sweaty and disheveled from a campaign rally, learned from reporters that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had died at her home in Washington while the rally was underway. Trump was monetarily speechless. Later, on Air Force One flying back to Washington, Trump told reporters: “She led an amazing life. What else can you say? She was an amazing woman. Whether you agreed or not, she was an amazing woman who led an amazing life.” During the rally, unaware that Ginsburg was on her deathbed, Trump bragged to 2,500 supporters about his record of appointing judges and touted Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a conservative darling, as a possible Supreme Court nominee if a Court vacancy occurred. Someone in the crowd, tuned into the news by smartphone, shouted: “Ginsburg is dead!” Apparently Trump did not hear above the raucous crowd and continued riffing about judicial appointments.
