WASHINGTON – Salad greens from Dole and Fresh Express packaging plants have been recalled after three deaths and 22 hospitalizations due to listeria contamination. It’s massive recall: 400-plus products under various salad-kit brands:
> Dole.
> Kroger.
> Giant Eagle.
> Little Salad Bar.
> Market District.
> Marketside.
> Signature.
> Simply Nature.
> Weis.
> Wellesley Farms.
Among symptoms: Fever, headache, diarrhea. The kits, of varied mixtures of greens, are sold in plastic bags ranging from 5 to 32 ounces. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control said the strain of bacteria matches a strain linked to 16 listeria illnesses over the past seven years. Dole suspended operations for “an extensive cleaning and sanitation protocol.”
