AUSTIN, Minn. – Demolition has begun at the Northeast Side power plant operated by Austin Utilities since 1971. The plant was decommissioned in 2016 due to outdated and inefficient technology. Demolition is expected to be complete in April. Useable motors, electric equipment and steel will be auctioned, the utility said.
