MADISON, Wis. – Governor Tony Evers said he won’t endorse any particular Democrat in the race to unseat U.S. Senator Ron Johnson. Too many good Democrats are running for him to jump into endorsements, Evers said. The primary is August 9. The most visible Democratic challengers to Johnson, a two-term Republican, are:
> Mandela Barnes, lieutenant governor, who was Evers’ running mate in 2018.
> Sarah Godlewski, state treasurer, also elected in 2018.
> Alex Lasry, a Milwaukee Bucks executive.
Pressed by a reporter on why Evans isn’t endorsing his lieutenant governor, Evers said that as the state’s elected Democratic leader it would be wrong for him to pick a favorite. In effect, he said: “Leave the choice to Democratic voters in the primary.”
