RED WING, Minn. –Bail was reduced for a woman accused of leaving a newborn son on a Lake Pepin beach to die in 2003. Bail for Jennifer Matter, 50, originally at $750,000, was dropped to $250,000 by a Goodhue County judge. This means she can leave jail if she can come up with $250,000 to guarantee she won’t flee and will show up for later court hearings. Her unconditional bail remained at $1.5 million. Matter faces two counts of second-degree murder. She has not been charged in a second case  —  newborn girl found in the Mississippi River at Red Wing in 1999. DNA has identified her as the other of both children. She says the second child was stillborn.
