ROCHESTER, Minn. – President Biden’s college loan forgiveness plan has Republicans over a barrel. Among them: State Senator Carla Nelson, R-Rochester. Nelson, an influential veteran senator, believes Biden has overreached his executive authority with the forgiveness plan, but she recognizes the plan is popular. Nelson and State Representative Paul Marquart, D-Dilworth, who chairs the House taxes committee, are pressing Governor Tim Walz to call a special session of the Legislative to exempt college loan forgiveness state tax law.
