WINONA, Minn. – Theoretically the 507 telephone area code for southern Minneosta could accommodate 9,999,999 phone numbers. Not enough, says the agency that assigns area codes. The people at the North American Numbering Plan are thinking through how to divide Area Code 507 and create a second area code. The agency said it has no timeline for the change.

507’s future in flux. How will it be chopped and diced.
Area code profile
Since 1954 the North American Number Plan Administrator has divided the United States, Canada and most of the Caribbean into three-digit areas codes that fit into a global direct-dial system. Area code 507 stretches across southern Minnesota. It’s one of seven area codes in Minnesota. The Federal Communications Commission has authorized NANP to manage U.S. area codes, but it’s a transnational organization.
