ST. PAUL, Minn. – Federal Judge Susan Nelson spared nothing in sentencing mail-order drug-dealer Aaron R. Broussard. It will be life in prison for the 32-year-old. Broussard’s product killed at least 11 people and seriously injured others. Broussard operated a website under the innocent-sounding name PlantFoodUSA.net. The name was a ruse. And customers knew it. They went to the site for recreational drugs, including a supposed Addenol stimulant knock-off. What customers didn’t know was that the pills were laced with fatal doses of fentanyl. Broussard knew, however. The Chinese smuggler who supplied the drugs warned him about a production mix-up and told him to test the pills before distributing them. He didn’t. People died. In sentencing Broussard, Judge Nelson said: “Your disregard for human life is terrifying.”
