ROCHESTER, Minn. – Restroom visits at the new Dakota Middle School need not be communal. Most toilets are mini-rooms for one student at a time with a solid door and floor to ceiling walls. No traditional stalls. The uni-sex mini-restrooms open onto central halls. Principal Levi Lundvak said the new design has been received well. Also, he said that staff can more easily monitor what’s going on. “A lot of the traditional behaviors that sometimes do happen in a bathroom facility, they aren’t happening because you’re alone in your own individual bathroom.” Still, parts of the building have the traditional open restrooms labeled specifically for either boys or girls.
Unisex restroom layout. Timid or not. Doesn’t matter. Boy or girl. Doesn’t matter ether.
