WINONA, Minn. – A few yellowing swaths are showing faintly – ever so fainty — in the bluffs. The brilliant autumn bursts, however, are weeks away. The latest foliage map from the state Parks Department shows 25% of peak color south of Mankato. The rest of us in southeast Minnesota, well, we’ll have to wait a wee while.

Autumn awaits. Peak fall colors arrive earliest in some areas in late September to early October. Then it’s a southward march. The dots are state parks.
