GREENVILLE, Miss. – A Minnesota-bound river cruise ship, the Viking Mississippi, cancelled its voyage four days out because the river was blocked by barges stuck in the mud. The passengers, 386 in all, debarked 150 miles south of of Greenville and were bused two hours to Memphis for flights home. The Viking Mississippi, a new ship, was bound for St. Paul and to turn around for the trip back to New Orleans, its homeport. This would have been the ship’s last voyage of the season for the whole length of the Mississippi.
