BLACK RIVER FALLS Wis. – A driver lost control of his car, which rolled on its side onto the Union Pacific tracks as a freight train was approaching. Police called the railroad to halt the train, as first-responders worked frantically to extricate the driver from the wreckage. The train stopped a mile short of the accident. The car driver, Jessie Hoff, 46, of Alma Center, was removed safely from the wrecked car. The accident was about 10 p.m. alongside U.S. Highway 12 between Black River Falls. and Merrillan. Hoff was southbound on 12. He was cited for driving while intoxicated, his fourth offense; having an open intoxicant; and failing to keep his vehicle under control.
