FERGUS FALLS, Minn. – A barn fire killed 1,000 goats at the Cornerstone Farm dairy near Henning, 35 miles east of Fergus. The dairy operators, Brittany and Stephen Springer, said hey also lost a dog trained to tend the herd. Brittany Springer told KVLY television that she was awakened by a loud noise about 3 a.m. and headed downstairs to investigate. On her way back to bed, the power went out in the house. It was then that she saw the massive glow in the barn. She called 911 but could only watch helplessly until firefighters arrived. “It’s still a pretty helpless feeling to stand there for 15 minutes and watch your livelihood burn,” she said. Also lost were15 peacocks and at least two tractors.
