WINONA, Minn. – A driver climbed out of his wrecked car after it struck a parked vehicle and flipped. When police arrived, Wilfred Jake Schmitz, 23, was already exchanging insurance information with the other driver. He was unhurt. This was about 6:05 a.m. in the 700 block of East Wabasha Street. Schmitz admitted to drinking, police said. That he had been drinking was confirmed by a blood-alcohol breath test that showed 0.14% — almost twice the legal level for impairment. Schmitz was ticketed after an ambulance crew agreed that medical attention was unnecessary.
