WINONA, Minn. – A Winona man told police that a guy showed up unannounced and unwelcome at his back door with chains wrapped around his wrists. The guy then attacked, whipping the chains into his face and ribs, the man said. This was about 2:10 p.m. in the 1050 block of East Sanborn Street. The confrontation was only the beginning. The man said he thwarted most of the attack when the guy with the chains tried to bash his way through the door. The guy then smashed a window for access. In the process the guy cut a hand badly. The guy retreated to his vehicle in the alley, but then, bleeding profusely from the broken glass, came back to the house and asked for help. If this all seems bizarre, dear reader, it gets more so. When police arrived, the guy with the chains and bleeding arm identified himself as Charles William Quackenbusch, 35, of Minnesota City. Police said he explained that he was seeking revenge on behalf of a girlfriend who four years earlier had been beaten by the man at the East Sanborn address. The Sanborn man acknowledged that he indeed had done that – but gosh, his is now, four years later. Although injured, neither man wanted further medical attention. Police arrested Quackenbusch.

Quackenbusch. Charges pending: Assault, property damage, burglary.
