WINONA, Minn. – Coaches failed last year to enforce the Winona School Board’s masking requirements, according to veteran Board member Steve Schild. He called for universal Covid protocols unless the Board decides otherwise. Schild said the Board is responsible for student safety, including athletes. At a recent School Board meeting Schild proposed an explicit Board requirement to include athletic compliance. He was voted down 4-3. The Board, however, voted 6-1 to require indoor masking this coming year for everyone regardless of vaccination status except babies, toddlers and people with breathing disabilities The requirement would be auto-adjusted to county-wide risk levels.
