MINNEAPOLIS – The Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, Derek Chauvin, asked the Minnesota Supreme Court to give him more than the statutory 90 days to find an attorney to appeal the conviction. When he was sentenced in June, Chauvin lost legal representation provided by the police officers’ union. Being penniless, Chauvin said he now needs a public defender. As he sees, Chauvin said, he has 14 grounds for an appeal.
