LEWISTON, Minn. – A neighbor who has a coop lets his chickens roam.  They know no boundaries. They brighten everybody’s day by pecking their way backyard to backyard for fall seeds and insects and who knows what. Such a delight. Unfortunately their pecking expeditions caught the eye of a bird-dog a few houses away. The brood of 11 chickens soon was 10. Then nine. Oblivious to their coop-mates’ fate, the survivors kept visiting up and down the creek. The bird dog is leashed now. All’s well.

Megadoodle. We call him Megadoodle. Sometimes Donald. Don’t ask why. But he seems to know his name. Both of them. Image: Steve Lunde
