GETTYSBURG, S.D.  – Police Chief Dave Mogard removed decals with a Confederate flag alongside an American flag from city police cars. Mogard also said that his officers no longer be wear the logo patch on their uniforms. Black activists had called the logo a symbol of racist oppression. But the City Council declined to act and deferred the issue to Mogard. The police department had used the logo since 2009 to capture the spirit of the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg, for which the town is named.

PATCH. Logo bites dust in town of 1,100.
