WINONA, Minn. – The County Board decided to fund a temporary day shelter with funds from Congress’ Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. The shelter had been proposed by Catholic Charities for homeless people with no place to go because of COVID-19 related closures like the public library. The funding, $19,500, will provide cool spaces, meals and showers. Catholic Charities’ partnered for the shelter with Edge Church and Hiawatha Valley Mental Health. The shelter will be operate until the city warming center and Wesley United Methodist’s shelter open November 1.
