ST. ROSA, Minn. – Fire destroyed a hay barn and killed 48 head of cattle inside while firefighters had to wait for road crews to salt and plow a road to the farm. The farmer, Glenn Heinen, said no cattle survived. The fire was reported about 5:40 a.m. at the farm in Millwood Township in the 29000 block of Wedgewood Road – about 35 miles northwest of St Cloud. A sheriff’s deputy, the first to arrive, said a large portion of the structure was already engulfed and unsafe to approach. The first responding fire crews from Freeport and Melrose called in more water resources from two other fire departments.
Source of fire. Hay that occupied most of one end of the barn.
