CRESCO, Iowa – A Cresco man pleaded guilty to shooting at police who were responding to a domestic disturbance. Richard Dale Ogle
II, 31, was sentenced to 30 years. The arrest was in 2019 when police were called to a Cresco house, in the 600 block of Third Avenue East, just before 4:30 a.m. The caller said a man was holding a gun to his girlfriend’s head. As officers were securing the area, Ogle drove away. A14-mile chase ensued with speeds of 100 mph. Officers said that Ogle fired gunshots at them. Ogle finally was stopped Ogle and made the arrest. In the car police found a handgun with a spent shell and a bag with 21 rounds of ammunition. A breath test showed blood alcohol at .12% — 1-1/2 times the usual legal threshold for drunkenness. Ogle’s guilty plea was to eluding, going armed with intent, possession of a firearm as a felon, and carrying weapons. A charge of attempted murder was dropped.
