ROCHESTER, Minn. – The nation’s tallest person at 7-feet-8, Igor Vovkovinskiy of Rochester, died at age 38. He was diagnosed as a child in his native Ukraine with a pituitary condition. He was 6 feet by age 7. He came to Rochester to be close to the Mayo Clinic. Being hard to miss, and also outgoing and likable, he was one of the city’s most visible residents. As an adult, Vovkovinskiy made numerous television and movie appearances. His best-known movie role was in the 2011 comedy” Hall Pass.” An avid Democrat Vovkovinskiy enjoyed flaunting his politics at rallies in a T-shirt that read “World’s Biggest Obama Supporter.” In 2013, Vovkovinskiy joined singer Zlata Ognevich in a Ukraine stage performance at the Eurovision song contest.

Vovkovinskiy height was due to a tumor pressing against his pituitary gland. The gland released excessive growth hormore. In 2019 he developed a heart condition.
