EAU CLAIRE, Wis. –The City shut down four municipal water wells after “forever chemicals” were detected above new state safety levels. Dave Solberg, city manager, said the wells are west of the Chippewa Valley airport three miles north of downtown Eau Claire. The other 12 Eau Claire wells have PFAS levels below recommended safety limits, he said. Solberg said city water is safe drinking because of the shutdown. The city is working with state agencies to identify the source of the toxicity. Forever chemicals are a serious neurological and carcinogenic hazard that doesn’t disappear into the environment. They last forever in the ground, in human tissue and everywhere else, hence the name “forever.”
