MINNEAPOLIS – Acting as his own attorney, convicted murderer Derek Chauvin filed documents that he intends to appeal his conviction for the death of George Floyd. Chauvin raised 14 issues. Among the issues is a claim that the trial judge improperly denied his request to move the case out f Minneapolis, where there had been saturation news coverage of the death of George Floyd. The case had become a national cause for the Black Lives Matter campaign against excessive force by white police, like Chauvin, against black men, like Floyd. The appeal papers were filed with the state Court of Appeals. Meanwhile, Chauvin has asked the state Supreme Court to provide him public defender for the appeal.
