SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas billionaire owner of the Minnesota Vikings for seven years, Red McCombs, died at age 95. McCombs bought the Vikings franchise in 1998. That season the Vikings went 15-1 before losing the NFC conference championship to the Atlanta Falcons. McCombs sold the Vikings to the Wilf family in 2005. He also owned the San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets at various times. McCombs made his fortune dealing cars and investing in oil and radio, He donated heavily to Donald Trump’s presidential campaigns and also to right-wing U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas.
