WINONA, Minn. – A study on future housing for the city Police and Fire departments is expected by the fall, City Manager Steve Sarvi said. The city has contracted with BKV Group, a Minneapolis architectural firm, to assess current and future space needs. A given, Sarvi said, is that the departments are running out of room at their separate facilities. These are at the current city-county Law Enforcement Center at 201 West Third Street next to the courthouse and at the fire house at 451 East Third Street. Choices, Sarvi said, include remodeling current facilities or building something new to bring the departments under the same roof. Sarvi said that locating fire units downtown may be essential to maintain keeps property owners’ insurance costs down.
