GEORGE FLOYD MURDER TRIAL

– – –

MINNEAPOLIS  – Pulmonologist Martin Tobin was recalled as a prosecution witness in the Derek Chauvin murder trial on whether carbon monoxide fumes factored into the death of George Floyd while being restrained by Chauvin. Tobin challenged an assertion from a defense witness the day before that carbon monoxide exposure was a contributing factor in Floyd’s death. Not so, said Tobin. He cited the autopsy showed that Floyd’s blood-oxygen saturation was 98%, which meant that carbon monoxide could been have been only 2% max – hardly a fatal level. Tobin was rebutting testimony from former Maryland chief medical examiner David Fowler that carbon monoxide contributed to Floyd’s death. Fowler had testified as a witness on behalf of Chauvin. A key in Chauvin’s defense is that Floyd died from drugs and pre-existing medical conditions and perhaps carbon monoxide — not necessarily from Chauvin’s chokehold on his neck.

Fowler. Made room for role of exhaust fumes as possible fatal factor in George Floyd’s death.

Tobin. No way. Put another way: You gotta be kidding.
