Ground-breaking in early fall, occupancy early 2024
WASHINGTON – The Veterans Affairs Department released $100 million to build three veterans homes in Minnesota, including a 54-unit hilltop home in Preston. Construction could begin this fall with an 18-month construction schedule. The location is a 15-acre bluff-top site surrounded by a 200-year-old native white oak forest. The design incorporates local wood and stone. Public spaces include a coffee shop and cafe, a theater, a meeting room, a family dining room, a meditation room, a chapel, and a club room. The 54 residential units are split into three 18-resident “households” to avoid the usual institutional-feeling of hallways.
