WASHINGTON –  A well-known figure in Minnesota law enforcement, Eddie Frizell, was nominated by President Biden as U.S. marshal for Minnesota. If confirmed by the Senate, Frizell will be the first black person in the position. Frizell has been the chief of the Metro Transit Police Department since 2019. His nomination comes 1-1/2 years after the police killing of George Floyd, which stirred racial issues nationwide. Also in Minneapolis, only 4-1/2 months ago two white sheriff’s deputies shot and killed Winston Boogie Smith Jr., a black man, while assigned to a Marshals Service task force. The case raised questions about why the Marshals Service dallied in required officers to wear camera and reignited racial tensions.
