FORT MCCOY, Wis. – The Army expects a new 400-bed barracks for Reserve, Guard and other short-assignment soldiers to be completed next August. Thefour-story building will be near a recently constructed dining hall. The project is part of a long-term $20.6 million upgrade. Master planner Brian Harrie said three more barracks are planned un all, as well as three 20,000-square-foot brigade headquarters buildings, and a 160-room officer quarters Meanwhile, old barracks, some daring to World War II, are being demolished. More than 100,000 soldiers train annually at McCoy, mostly in two-week increments.
