WHEELER, Wis. – Four people were found dead in a black SUV that had been driven into a cornfield near the Town of Sheridan town hall. Each victim had been shot in the head at least once, Sheriff Kevin Bygd said. No one was in the driver’s seat, he said. The abandoned vehicle was reported by farmer who called 911 after finding the carnage about 2:15 p.m. It was thought the shooting occurred the night before. The sheriff said the victims were not believed to be local. He said there seemed to be no continuing danger to people in the Sheridan township, which is 15 miles north of the Interstate 94 interchange into Menomonie. However, the sheriff urged locals to secure their doors and be vigilant about their surroundings. Sheriff Bygd said the SUV had Minnesota plates. A second dark-color SUV may have been involved., he said. One victim was in the front passenger seat, the others in the back seat, he said. He called in the county medical examiner and the state Division of Criminal Investigation, the State Patrol, and the Department of Justice crime lab.
Combing for clues. Sheriff’s deputies search shoulder to shoulder along Road VVV for anything to help explain the quadruple homicide. The murder vehicle was left in a field off VVV at the intersection with County Road F. The Sheridan township hall is at the intersection.
