Senate GOP chief: ‘Now that you ask’
EAST GULL LAKE, Minn. – The majority leader of the State Senate, Paul Gazelka, admitted that he failed to notify a Lake Elmo venue, where Republican senators, spouses and staff gathered November 5 for a celebratory dinner, that some celebrants had later come down COVID outbreaks celebrants. Some celebrants were likely asymptomatic carriers. Gazelka tested positive for coronavirus a week after the dinner. So have two other senators, who were at a GOP caucus the same day as the dinner. Asked by a Minnesota Public Radio reporter whether he had notified the Lake Elmo venue, Gazelka said: “Based on your questioning, we realized we had not notified the event site. I just got off the phone with the owner and apologized for our oversight.”
Narrowest margin
What were Republicans celebrating at the Lake Elmo Inn? They retained the GOP majority in the Senate majority, albeit only by one-seat, 34-33.
