BYRON, Minn. – A 12-year-old girl told her mom that a man had stopped her walking home from school on a wooded trail and asked if he could walk with her. The mother called 911. The man, the girl said, walked off when she said her mother was waiting for her in her car. Sheriff Kevin Torgerson ordered patrols near the Byron Middle School for what he called the “suspicious incident.” The encounter was about 3 p.m. on a shortcut from the school. The path is open as it goes by a football field and three baseball diamonds before a short wooded section that opens to a subdivision at Seventh Street Northwest and Fourth Street Northwest. The girl described the man as white, in his 20s with black hair and wearing a hoodie.
