EAGAN, Minn. – Republican Doug Wardlow, who lost a 2018 bid for attorney general by four points, announced he’s running again. Wardlow issued a statement attacking incumbent Keith Ellison. He accused Ellison of politicizing the attorney general’s office, allowing crime to skyrocket, and harming businesses and employees instead of being their ally. Wardlow said that Minnesotans deserve an attorney general who will defend their rights while ensuring that those responsible for violence and lawlessness are brought to justice. Wardlow, 42, served one term in the Legislature but lost when his district’s borders were rejiggered in 2012. An uphill battle for attorney general? No Republican has won the attorney general’s race since 1966. Nor has a Republican won statewide office since 2006.
