ST.PAUL, Minn. — Governor. Tim Walz activated 100 Minnesota National Guard soldiers in case things get out of hand with the release of former police officer Derek Chauvin from prison. Walz also mobilized 100 state troopers and 75 state Department of Natural Resources conservation officers. Walz explained that the mobilizations were “out of an abundance of caution.” Minneapolis authorities had asked for the support because of public safety concerns after Chauvin posted bond. Hours earlier Chauvin left prison on $1 million bond pending new court appearances. Chauvin is one of the former Minneapolis police officers charged in the death of George Floyd last May, which led to days of rioting.
