MADISON, Wis. – Governor Tony Evers said he will order a special session of the Legislature in late June  to repeal an 1849 Wisconsin law that makes abortion a crime. It could be a rough call for the Democratic governor. The Legislature is controlled by Republicans who fear backlashes in the next election if forced to vote on a hot-button like abortion. Most Republicans are on record against a woman’s right to choose. It’s an uneasy position they would rather avoid talking about. Most polls show a majority of voters favor a right to choose. Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu, R-Oostburg, called Evers’ proposed special session “blatantly political” from partisan governor.  “We will gavel it out,” LeMahieu said.
