CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Three family members killed during a shooting at an eastern Iowa state park were shot, stabbed and-or strangled, autopsies found. Tyler Schmidt, 42, died from a gunshot wound and multiple sharp force injuries. His wife Sarah Schmidt, 42, died from multiple sharp force injuries. Their 6-year-old daughter, Lula Schmidt, died from a gunshot wound and strangulation. It was no surprise that the deaths, at Maquoketa Caves State Park campground on July 2, have been ruled homicides. The assailant shot and killed himself in a nearby wooded area.
